The Autumn Equinox was at 02:03 GMT this morning and there will be an increasingly seasonal feel to the weather during the coming days. Todays outbreaks of rain linger in the south east and in other parts of the UK there will be scattered showers. The weekend will be mixed but during Monday colder Arctic air will be sweeping southwards across all regions.

Friday begins wet in the south eastern corner. Elsewhere it is mainly dry.
Through the day outbreaks of rain linger in the far south east. In the rest of the UK there will be sunny spells and scattered showers. Breezy.
Temperatures range from 12C (54F) in the north to 19C (66F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.
Tonight rain continues to be a risk in the south eastern corner. In other areas scattered showers continue, but clear periods allow temperatures to drop into single figures.
Tomorrow the risk of wet conditions continues in the far south east. In the north there will be showers and through the course of the day they push down into central counties. Temperatures close to the seasonal norm.
Sunday starts bright, but there could be a few showers in Wales and eastern England. As the day progresses cloudier skies move southwards and outbreaks of rain push down across Scotland. Winds strengthen in the north.
Through Monday a band of rain clears southwards and it turns a lot colder. Showery conditions develop and over high ground in the north some of them may fall as sleet or snow. In areas where cloudy conditions persist it could be particularly chilly for late September.
Tuesday and Wednesday are looking cool and showery. There is a possibility of longer outbreaks of rain pushing southeastwards over southern and central counties. Nights will be quite chilly and in sheltered areas where clear periods develop there will be ground frost.
