More typical weather returns to the UK

Outbreaks of rain push southeastwards across the north of the UK today. To the south there will be isolated showers, but many places miss them and remain bright. The mixed weather continues through the coming days, but there will be a more normal feel to proceedings after the recent heatwave and thunderstorms.

Thursday starts wet in the north west of the UK. Elsewhere it is mostly dry.

Through the day outbreaks of rain slowly push southeastwards across the northern half of the UK and Wales. The heaviest ones will be in the west, with drier periods in the east. Much of southern, central and south eastern England stays dry, although isolated showers are possible.

Temperatures range from 16C (61F) in the far north to 25C (77F) in the south east. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight patchy outbreaks of rain move into southern counties. To the north it becomes mainly dry, but later on further showers reach the north west.

Tomorrow any remaining rain in the south east steadily clears away. In the north showery rain spreads eastwards, but there will be bright spells too. Southern and central counties have a mostly dry day with sunny periods. Temperatures will be similar to today's.

Weekend weather

During Saturday a band of rain may affect northern England and Wales. Areas to its south will be dry and bright. To the north sunny intervals are likely, but later on further outbreaks of rain push into the north west. Warm in southern and central Britain.

Sunday is expected to be mostly dry. However, cloud builds from the west and it turns wet in Northern Ireland. Temperatures similar to recent days.

Monday bring a mix of sunny spells and showers. The driest and warmest conditions are likely to be in the south and east where temperatures reach the mid 20Cs.
