The heatwave continues through the rest of this week. Temperatures climb further and on Saturday there is a chance of 37C (99F) being reached. However, by Sunday thundery showers may start to develop and early next week they become more widespread. At this stage the forecast details are uncertain, but there is the potential for large rain totals in places and it will be turning cooler.

Thursday starts wet in the far north west. Elsewhere it is dry.

The vast majority of the UK has fine day with long sunny periods. However, in northern and western Scotland there will be outbreaks of rain at times.

The heatwave continues and if anything temperatures are likely to be a little higher than they were yesterday. Values range from 18C (64F) in the far north west to maximums of close to 33C (93F) in England and Wales. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Thundery breakdown next week?

Saturday brings more of the same. Temperatures could reach an extremely hot 36C (97F).

Computer models are suggesting Sunday could be even hotter. Values could approach 37C (99F). Could 100F be reached again? It isn't out of the question.

The heat probably hold on during Monday; however, the risk of thunderstorms is likely to increase. They bring the potential for downpours and flash flooding in places, but there is a lot of uncertainty about how widespread they will become. Large local variations in the weather are possible.
