The meteorological autumn finishes today and despite the recent cold weather it has been a mild season. Things are currently mixed with outbreaks of rain in the north and west but drier conditions in the south and east. The changeable theme continues through the coming days and it will turn colder again..

Tuesday starts damp in much of the UK. In northern Scotland there are some heavy bursts of rain.
Through the day it remains damp in the north and west. This afternoon more persistent and heavy outbreaks of rain push across Northern Ireland and into north western Britain. In central and eastern England there will be a lot of cloud but it should often be dry. Quite windy.
Milder than recently. Temperatures range from 8C (46F) to 12C (54F). See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.
Tonight wet and windy conditions push southeastwards across all regions. Clearer and showery conditions follow.

Tomorrow brings a mix of sunny spells and showers. Most of the showers will be in coastal counties and the north where they could turn wintry, particularly over high ground. Windy and rather cold.
Thursday is expected to be cold and there could be wintry showers in the east for a time. Nonetheless, most of the UK has a good deal of dry and bright weather. Later on it turns wet in Northern Ireland and over high ground sleet or snow is possible.
During Friday outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow push eastwards. Most of the snow is likely to be over high ground in the northern half of the UK and it generally turns back to rain before clearing away. All regions should be mostly dry by the afternoon. Rather cold.
Through the weekend and into the early part of next week changeable weather is expected to continue. All regions can expect dry periods but there will be showers or longer spells of rain too. Temperatures fluctuate and at times it will be quite cold. Sleet or snow remains possible over high ground in the north.
