Arctic air moves southwards across the UK today so it will feel colder than it has recently. There will be showers in places and over high ground in Scotland sleet or snow is likely at times. The showery theme continues tomorrow, but through the weekend more persistent outbreaks of rain steadily spread eastwards.

Thursday starts wet in parts of southern and eastern England. There are also scattered showers in the north and west, with some of them falling as snow over the Scottish hills.
This morning the remnants of the rain in the south and east clear away. All regions then have sunny spells, but there will be further showers in the north and west. Over high ground in Scotland they continue to have a wintry flavour. Blustery, especially in the north.
Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in northern Scotland to 12C (54F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.
Tonight showers continue in the north and some of them could push down into central regions. The south should be mostly dry. Chilly, particularly in Scotland where a patchy frost is likely.

Issued 19th October 2021
Tomorrow starts chilly and there will be some showers around. Through the day they continue, with most of them in central and northern areas. However, there should be a good deal of dry and bright weather too. Feeling rather cold.
The weekend looks mixed. During Saturday outbreaks of rain push into Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Elsewhere it should be dry and chilly.
Through Sunday a band of rain slowly spreads southeastwards and fragments. Damp conditions probably linger in the south eastern corner into the afternoon. Elsewhere it turns brighter, but showers develop and some of them turn heavy, particularly in the west. Temperatures should be a little higher than in recent days.
Early next week things remain changeable. Further spells of rain are likely, particularly in the north and west. The south and east probably have a reasonable amount of dry periods.
