Wednesday starts wet in parts of central and south western Britain as well as the far north west. Elsewhere it is mostly dry.
Through the day heavy showery rain pushes northeastwards across England and Wales. In places it could lead to flash flooding and travel disruption. A band of rain also sinks southwards across Scotland. Showery conditions develop behind it and over the Scottish mountains sleet or snow is likely. Despite the mixed conditions there should be a reasonable amount of sunny spells too. Windy.
Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in northern Scotland to a very mild 18C (64F) in eastern England. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.
Tonight it's a very mixed picture. Heavy outbreaks of rain move eastwards across southern Britain and drier conditions return from the west.
In the north the band of rain becomes increasingly fragmented and patchy as it pushes southwards. Clearer skies follow it and quite a widespread frost develops in the northern half of Britain. Wintry showers continue in Scotland.
