Unsettled weather returning

Wet autumnal weather. Posted by brian gaze

High pressure has been the dominant feature of the weather recently, but things are set to change during the coming days. All regions can expect wet and windy periods as pressure falls and an Atlantic flow returns. It will also become very mild for a time, but later in the week temperatures fall back.

Sunday starts wet in the north. In southern and central regions it is a mainly dry but cloudy picture.

Through the day outbreaks of rain continue in the north but they become lighter and patchier. Areas to the south remain dry and some bright spells develop.

Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in the north to 17C (63F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tonight not much changes. In the north it stays damp, but much of southern and central Britain will be dry. Later on patchy rain could push into south western England and southern Wales.

14 day UK weather forecast

Issued 12th October 2021

Tomorrow persistent outbreaks of rain gradually push across Northern Ireland and into western Britain. Central and eastern counties remain dry for much of the day. Becoming windy in the west.

Unsettled outlook

Tuesday is looking mixed. Heavy spells of rain are possible in southern and central Britain. There could also be be rain in the north west. Elsewhere there should be dry periods. Windy but very mild. Temperatures could reach 20C (68F).

During Wednesday strong winds and outbreaks of rain are expected to be a risk in much of the UK. Forecast details are uncertain but there is a possibility of gales, particularly in coastal counties.

Changeable weather is forecast for the second half of next week. Wet and windy conditions pull away eastwards and then colder Arctic air may move southwards for time. A ridge of high pressure probably builds from the west to bring a drier interlude, but it probably won't be long before disturbances from the Atlantic begin to return.
