Outbreaks of rain push down across the northern half of the UK today but southern and central regions remain dry. The next few days continue to look mixed, but in the south it should often be dry. By early next week forecast confidence falls and there are signs of it staying warmer and drier in the south at least for a time.

Thursday starts wet in the north west of the UK. Elsewhere it is dry.
Through the day outbreaks of rain move southeastwards across the northern half of the UK and at times they turn heavy. To their north brighter and cooler conditions develop. To the south it stays dry and although there will be a lot of cloud some bright spells should develop. Windy in the north.
Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in the far north to 16C (61F) in England. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.
Tonight the band of rain moves down into central and southern counties, but it becomes increasingly patchy. Nonetheless, there could be a few heavy bursts in eastern counties. In the north it turns cold under clearing skies and quite a widespread ground frost develops.

Tomorrow may begin with some light rain in the south but it should quickly clear. All regions then have dry and bright conditions. Temperatures in southern and central regions will be a little lower than recently.
Saturday starts with local frost in northern and eastern Britain. Through the day cloudier skies and patchy spells of rain feed eastwards. Feeling cold in the north.
During Sunday outbreaks of rain push across much of the north and west of the UK. Southern and eastern England probably remain mostly dry. Temperatures generally close to the seasonal average.
Forecast confidence for the first half of next week is low. The latest computer model guidance is suggesting unsettled weather in the north and west. However, in the south and east it could be drier, at least to begin with, and quite warm for mid October.
