The autumn equinox takes place on Wednesday, 22nd September, but so far this month there has been a very summery flavour to the weather. Things are set to change somewhat during the second half of the week as cooler air pushes down from the northwest. However, in southern and central regions it continue to be quite dry.

During Wednesday a band of rain pushes southeastwards. By the late afternoon it may be straddled across the south west, Wales and northern England. Areas to the south east remain dry and bright. To the north west there will be sunny spells but also heavy showers. Windy in the north.
Through Thursday an area of rain moves southwards across the northern half of the UK. It is expected to become lighter and more fragmented by the evening.
