The weather remains mixed today. Patchy bands of rain push across the UK and there is the potential for downpours, particularly in the east. Through the coming week a changeable theme is expected to continue. Later on there are signs of it turning rather cool, wet and windy, particularly in the north.

Sunday starts with bands of patchy rain affecting parts of the UK. Through the day they push eastwards and there is the possibility of downpours in central and eastern England. Brighter conditions follow into much of the west, but further showers are likely. Cooler than recently.

Temperatures range from 14C (57F) in the north west to 20C (68F) in the south east and East Anglia. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Uncertain next week

Tuesday is looking dry in most of the UK, although there is a possibility of rain in western Scotland. Cloud amounts vary. In sunny spells it feels pleasantly warm.

During Wednesday a band of rain pushes southeastwards. By the late afternoon it may be straddled across the south west, Wales and northern England. Areas to the south east remain dry and bright. To the north west there will be sunny spells but also heavy showers. Quite windy.

Forecast confidence for the rest of the week is low. The favoured outcome is for showery conditions in all regions to begin with. Later on it probably remains cool and changeable in the north. In the south there is a greater chance of dry periods.
