Downpours this weekend

Most of the UK has another dry and warm or very warm day. However, things are changing as an area of low pressure approaches from the southwest. It brings the risk of thundery downpours to southern and central Britain tonight and through the weekend.

Friday starts dry. Through the day it becomes very warm or hot in the west, but it will be cooler in the east. Most places have sunny periods, although there will be more cloud than recently and a few showers are likely in the west. Breezy, particularly in the south.

Temperatures range from 18C (64F) near to the east coast to 29C (84F) in Northern Ireland and north western Britain. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow heavy and thundery downpours affect much of southern and central Britain. Rainfall amounts are likely to vary significantly, but there is the potential for flash flooding in places. Scotland, Northern Ireland and much of northern England have another fine day.

Mixed outlook

Sunday is expected to be mixed. Scotland and Northern Ireland will be warm with scattered showers and sunny periods. England and Wales have heavy showers, but also some bright spells.

Monday brings sunny spells and heavy showers. Generally quite warm and possibly very warm in the west.

Changeable weather continues through Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All regions could have showers or more prolonged outbreaks of rain. In sunny spells it will be warm, but temperatures generally won't be far from the average.
