Heavy rain in the south

Water, water everywhere! Posted by brian gaze

The coming week brings mixed weather. Today is the longest day of the year, but in the south heavy outbreaks of rain make it feel very unseasonal. It will be drier and brighter in much of the north. Tomorrow is expected to be mainly dry. Temperatures will be low for late June in overcast areas.

Monday starts wet in the south and there is also a band of rain in northern England. Through the day outbreaks of rain continue in the south and there are likely to be some heavy bursts. At times they push into East Anglia and the Midlands. The rain in northern England edges southwards and it becomes increasingly patchy. Elsewhere it will be mainly dry, with the brightest skies in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Cool generally. Temperatures range from 13C (55F) to 18C (64F). See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain in southern counties gradually fades away. All areas then have dry conditions. Clear spells develop and it will be cold in the northern half of the UK. In places a ground frost is possible.

Mixed outlook?

Wednesday probably remains dry in the south and east, with temperatures a little higher than in recent days. Showery rain affect parts of the north and west.

During Thursday outbreaks of rain push into northern and western Scotland. There could also be showers in northern and south western England. In other areas it should be dry with some bright spells.

The rest of the week is looking mixed. There should be some pleasantly warm spells of sunshine. Nonetheless, the risk of showers or longer spells of rain remains.
