Best in central and eastern areas

The eastern half of Britain has the best of the weather today, with variable amounts of cloud and some bright intervals. In the west patchy spells of rain continue. During the next few days high pressure builds from the southwest and temperatures rise through the weekend.

Thursday starts with a few spots of rain in the west. Elsewhere it is dry, but quite murky. Through the day there will be patchy spells of light rain in Northern Ireland and western Britain. Central and eastern areas stay dry and cloud will break to give sunny spells. 

Temperatures range from 18C (64F) in the north west to 27C (81F) in East Anglia. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight the risk of rain remains in the west and in the north west some heavier outbreaks are likely. Central and eastern counties will be dry and muggy.

Tomorrow an area of cloud pushes down over central and southern counties. There should be some brighter spells and it will be very muggy. In the north it turns cooler and brighter, although an odd shower is possible.

Mostly fine and very warm weekend

Saturday is looking fine in all regions as high pressure builds from the southwest. Generally warm, but cooler in the north west.

During Sunday outbreaks of rain may push into the north west. The rest of the UK has sunny periods and it becomes  very warm or even hot. Temperatures could reach 30C (86F) locally in central and eastern England.  

Next week begins dry in the south and it could still be hot in the south east. Across central and northern regions showery spells of rain push eastwards and it will be cooler. Through the following days there is uncertainty about the forecast details. The general picture is for southern counties to have the driest and warmest conditions. In the north it will be more changeable and cooler.
