Friday begins dry and there has been a widespread frost. Through the day sunny periods develop in most of the UK, but there will be more cloud at times in the north. After the cold start it quickly warms up and feels pleasant in the afternoon.

Maximum temperatures range from 12C (54F) in northern Scotland to 18C (64F) in south western England. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight cloud amounts vary. Southern and central regions probably have long clear periods and that is where the greatest risk of frost is likely to be.

Tomorrow it's a very similar picture with most of the UK having fine weather. There is a possibility of light and scattered showers developing in the north, but most places miss them. After the chilly start temperatures quickly climb, but it probably remains chilly near to the east coast.

More changeable next week?

Through Sunday high pressure keeps things settled, but isolated showers be a risk in the north. In the afternoon it should be quite warm.

Forecast confidence for next week is low. During Monday showery outbreaks of rain push southwards over the northern half of the UK. In the south it stays dry.

Through the middle part of the week cold arctic air pushes down from the north. There is uncertainty about how far south it will reach. The risk of showery rain continues in the north and over high ground there could be sleet or snow.

The rest of the week may be quite changeable as areas of low pressure come into play. However, in southern Britain a good deal of dry weather continues to be likely.
