Meteorological spring starts fine

The meteorological spring begins with quiet weather across the UK. Despite the chilly start it will feel pleasant in the afternoon sunshine. Through the middle of the week there is a risk of showery rain in the south. In the north temperatures take a dip and by Friday the colder air pushes southwards across all regions.

Monday starts dry across the UK with frost and fog in places. Through the day sunny periods develop widely, but there is likely to be more cloud in parts of the south and south east at times. It will feel pleasant in the afternoon sunshine.

Maximum temperatures range from 8C (46F) to 13C (55F).

Tomorrow is set to be a fine day in much of the UK. In the south west there is a risk of showery spells developing later on, and more generally in the south it could become cloudier. Mild in the afternoon.

Change later in the week

The rather mild conditions continue on Wednesday. Showery spells of rain in are likely in parts of southern and central Britain. The north has a dry and bright day.

During Thursday the risk of showers remains in the south but they should clear away eastwards. In the north it turns colder and wintry showers push into eastern counties.

Through Friday and the weekend colder conditions are expected in all of the UK. To begin with there could be scattered sleet or snow showers in eastern Britain. Later on they fade away and daytime temperatures possibly edge up a little. Nighttime frosts develop widely.
