The heatwave continues today with temperatures in the south climbing into the mid 30Cs. Severe thunderstorms develop this afternoon and they are expected to be more widespread in southern Britain than yesterday. Nonetheless, they will still be hit and miss. During the next few couple of days the storm risk continues and temperatures dip.

Wednesday starts with thunderstorms in eastern Scotland. Elsewhere there are a few showers but it is mostly dry. This morning sunny periods develop widely and the storms in eastern Scotland move away. However, thunderstorms will be breaking out elsewhere and during the second half of the day some severe ones are expected. They bring the likelihood of downpours, hail and flash flooding. Southern counties of England probably see the worst conditions.
Temperatures range from 21C (70F) in the far north west to 35C (95F) in the south east and East Anglia. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.
Tonight the thunderstorms become more scattered. Later on further heavy showers push into southern England. Very warm and muggy in the south with temperatures in places not falling below 21C (70F).

Tomorrow thundery outbreaks of rain are most likely in southern and central counties. The north should be mainly dry and bright. Temperatures will be lower than in recent days but they could still exceed 30C (86F) in East Anglia.
Heavy showers continue in southern and central counties on Friday. The north has a fine day. Temperatures continue to dip with maximum values in the mid to upper 20Cs in southern and central regions.
The weekend looks mixed. On Saturday showers affect southern and central counties. The north has a lot of dry, bright and warm weather. The latest guidance suggests a risk of more persistent rain in England and Wales on Sunday. Scotland and Northern Ireland have sunny spells and showers.
Next week changeable conditions are favoured. All regions could see showers or longer spells of rain. Temperatures will often be close to the average but it could turn warmer later on.
