The heatwave continues in southern areas during the next few days but by Thursday temperatures should be dipping a little. The risk of thunderstorms becomes more widespread and they bring the potential for flash flooding. Nonetheless, they continue to be hit and miss.

Tuesday starts with thunderstorms in northern Britain and the south eastern corner. Elsewhere it is mostly dry. Through the day the storms move northwards into Scotland. Sunny periods develop elsewhere but further thunderstorms push across southern counties. They will be hit and miss but bring the potential for torrential rain and hail in places. It remains very hot in southern and central regions.
Temperatures range from 22C (72F) in the far north west to 35C (95F) in the south east and East Anglia. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.
Tonight it becomes dry in the south as thunderstorms move into central and northern areas. Very warm and muggy in the south with temperatures in places not falling below 21C (70F).

Tomorrow the thunderstorm risk continues in much of the country but there will be sunny periods too. The north has a warm day. Southern and central regions become very hot again. In parts of the south temperatures could reach 36C (97F).
During Thursday heavy showers and thunderstorms are most likely in southern and central counties. It remain hot but temperatures will probably be a few degrees lower than in recent days. The north has a mostly dry and bright day.
Heavy showers continue in southern and central counties on Friday. The north has a fine day. Temperatures are expected to be lower than recently in the south with maximum values in the mid to upper 20Cs.
The weekend looks like bringing a mix of sunny spells and showers. It will be warm or very warm, possibly becoming hot again in the south with 30C (86F) being reached locally.
