Risk of rain in much of the UK

Wet weather pushes eastwards across much of the UK today. Ahead of it some bright spells are likely and the south east remains dry. Tomorrow most places will be dry and warm sunny periods develop. Friday looks set to be the hottest day of the week with a scorching 36C (97F) possible in the south east. This weekend the heat eases.

Wednesday starts wet in northern England and northern Wales. Elsewhere it is mainly dry. Through the day outbreaks of rain steadily push eastwards across much of the UK but they become increasingly patchy. Brighter conditions return to Northern Ireland. In southern and eastern England there will be some bright spells ahead of the rain and the south eastern corner remains dry.

Temperatures range from 15C (59F) in the north west to 27C (81F) in the south east and East Anglia. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow there could be some showery rain in the south west. In other areas it will be dry and cloud breaks to give sunny spells. Warm in much of the country with temperatures in East Anglia peak closing to 29C (84F).

Heat eases this weekend

Through Friday outbreaks of rain push across Northern Ireland and into western Scotland. It could also be damp in the south west. The rest of the UK has a fine day with sunny periods. It will be very hot in the south east and East Anglia where temperatures peak at close to 36C (97F).   

Saturday is expected to be fine but cooler in northern regions. In the south cloud amounts vary and there could be a few showers in the south east. It remains hot with temperatures to the south of London peaking at close to 33C (91F).  

Sunday could bring a risk of thundery showers to the south east and East Anglia. Elsewhere there will be a lot of dry and sunny weather. Temperatures will be lower in the south than in recent days.

Early next week there should be a lot of fine weather but scattered showers are possible. Temperatures are likely to rise again and in the south it becomes very warm.
