Outbreaks of rain affect much of the UK today but it remains brighter in Scotland. The unsettled conditions continue tomorrow but by the weekend it will be turning drier and warmer as high pressure builds from the southwest. Next week is expected to be more summery, particularly in the south.

Wednesday starts wet in much of the southern half of the UK. In the north it is mostly dry. This morning the heaviest outbreaks of rain move away eastwards and some drier periods develop. Through the afternoon further spells of rain push across Northern Ireland as well as much of southern and central Britain. In Scotland and the north of England it remains brighter and showery.
Temperatures range from 12C (54F) in the north west to 18C (64F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.
Tonight rain counties in southern and central counties but it gradually turns lighter from the west. In the north showers become more scattered and there will be clear spells.

Tomorrow much of the country has showers or longer periods of rain. Some brighter intervals are likely, particularly in Northern Ireland. Temperatures will be similar to today's.
Friday brings sunny spells but there will be showers. In the north and east some are expected to be heavy. Temperatures remain disappointing for July.
Saturday is looking bright and although scattered showers are possible it should be mainly dry. It will feel a little warmer than recently.
Sunday should be dry and warm in much of the country. Temperatures could reach 27C (81F) in the south east. In the north west there is a risk of outbreaks of rain returning later in the day.
Early next week there should be a lot of dry and quite warm weather in the southern half of the country. In the north it may stay more changeable with an ongoing risk of showers or longer spells of rain.
