Heavy showers in places

Sunny intervals and showers. Posted by brian gaze

The changeable weather continues today. There will be showers in places and some are likely to be heavy. The next few days bring an ongoing risk of showers or more persistent outbreaks of rain, particularly to the north and west. Next week the mixed theme continues but high pressure should keep the south drier for much of the time.

Thursday starts with outbreaks of rain in northern England. To the north it is mainly dry but there are scattered showers to the south. Through the day the rain becomes more showery and it moves away southeastwards. In other areas showers become more widespread. In central England, western Wales and parts of southern England some of them could be heavy.

Temperatures range from 12C (54F) in parts of the north to 21C (70F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Mixed outlook

During Saturday outbreaks of rain become fragmented as they slowly clear southeastwards. Brighter and showery conditions follow into central and northern regions. In sunny spells it will feel pleasant.

Another band of rain is likely to push southeastwards across the north of the UK overnight and into Sunday. Through the day it clears southeastwards and showery conditions return behind it. In the south there probably won't be much rain.

Next week is looking mixed. The south should have quite a lot of dry and warm weather. In the north it stays more unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain and at times they could push southwards.
