Wednesday starts with outbreaks of rain over much of England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland are mostly dry. Through the day rain slowly spreads southwards and there are likely to be some heavy bursts in central and western areas. Amounts in the south east and East Anglia will be small. Brighter conditions follow into northern areas.

It will be a lot cooler than recently. Temperatures range from 12C (54F) in the far north to 20C (68F) in the south east. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Cool and often wet

Friday is looking showery across southern and central regions. In the north showers become heavy and in Scotland more prolonged outbreaks of rain are likely. It will be very windy and cool with gales in the north.

Through the weekend northerly winds bring changeable conditions. Daytime temperatures remain low for June and it will be windy with a risk of gales in the north. Showers or longer spells of rain continue and over the Scottish mountains snow is possible.

The cool and showery period continues early next week. In the longer term there is a lot of uncertainty. On balance a continuation of the quite unsettled pattern is currently favoured.
