A big change in the weather is now taking place. Cooler air and outbreaks of rain are pushing southwards as high pressure declines. The rest of the week is looking unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain. It also becomes very windy with gales in the north. The longer term outlook is looking mixed....READ IN FULL

Wednesday starts with outbreaks of rain over much of England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland are mostly dry. Through the day rain slowly spreads southwards and there are likely to be some heavy bursts in central and western areas. Amounts in the south east and East Anglia will be small. Brighter conditions follow into northern areas.
It will be a lot cooler than recently. Temperatures range from 12C (54F) in the far north to 20C (68F) in the south east. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight the rain clears from most of the south, although it could linger in the south east and East Anglia. In the north showers develop but elsewhere it becomes mainly dry with clear spells.

Tomorrow brings sunny spells but there will be showers and at times they could be heavy. Cool, particularly in the north.

Friday is looking showery across southern and central regions. In the north showers become heavy and in Scotland more prolonged outbreaks of rain are likely. It will be very windy and cool with gales in the north.
Through the weekend northerly winds bring changeable conditions. Daytime temperatures remain low for June and it will be windy with a risk of gales in the north. Showers or longer spells of rain continue and over the Scottish mountains snow is possible.
The cool and showery period continues early next week. In the longer term there is a lot of uncertainty. On balance a continuation of the quite unsettled pattern is currently favoured.
