Monday starts cloudy in much of the country but locally in the west clearer skies have allowed a frost to form overnight.  Through the day scattered showers continue in southern and eastern areas. At times they could be heavy and this morning a few of them may be wintry. By the afternoon they will be turning back to rain as upper air temperatures rise.

Temperatures range from a cold 7C (45F) in the east to 12C (54F) in the west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

High pressure in control

During Wednesday patchy outbreaks of rain affect Scotland. Elsewhere there could be a few showers but it stays mainly dry with variable cloud amounts. Winds turn into a northwesterly direction so unlike recently the highest temperatures are likely to be in the east.

Through Thursday and Friday a band of rain pushes southeastwards and fragments. Colder conditions follow into the northern half of the UK and wintry showers develop. The south remains mostly dry. Nighttime frosts become widespread again.

By the weekend winds high pressure migrates eastwards and become centred over the continent. That leads to winds turning into a southerly direction. It could become warm up significantly and there is a chance of temperatures in the southern half of the country reaching 21C (70F) for the first time this spring.
