Wet weather moves slowly southwards today across England and Wales but a change is beginning to take place. The risk of rain remains in the south tomorrow but high pressure will be building in from the Atlantic. During the weekend it becomes centred across northern Britain bringing mostly settled conditions. Cold nights are likely with frosts quite widespread this weekend....READ IN FULL

Wednesday starts with outbreaks of rain in Wales and northern England. There are scattered showers to the north but to the south it is dry. The band of rain slowly spreads southwards through the day. By the early evening it probably stretches from south west England across to East Anglia. To the north it turns brighter and in the north west showers continue.
Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in the north to 14C (57F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight patchy outbreaks of rain affect southern counties. In the far north showers are likely and at times they could be wintry. In other areas it will be dry and a frost develops in places, especially in parts of the north.

Tomorrow there will be rain at times in the south. The heaviest bursts affect the south west and southern Wales. Over the highest ground some sleet is possible. Central and northern areas have sunny spells and scattered showers. It will be chilly.

Friday looks dry and cool in most of the country with frost early and late. In the far south it could be cloudier with a risk of showery rain.
During the weekend high pressure is expected to be centred close to the UK. It should lead to a good deal of quiet and rather cold weather. Nighttime frosts are likely to be widespread but the days should bring sunny periods.
Next week the settled weather continues. The days will be mostly dry with close to average temperatures but nighttime frosts continue.
