Colder outlook

The risk of rain remains in the south west on Thursday and much of the south is likely to be cloudy. Northern regions will be  bright with scattered showers.

Friday looks dry and chilly in the north. In the south there is a risk of showery rain.

During the weekend high pressure is expected to be centred close to the UK. It should lead to a good deal of quiet and rather cold weather. Nighttime frosts possibly become widespread and later on there is a chance of wintry showers in southern and eastern counties.
