Monday starts mainly fine and in much of the country there has been a touch of frost overnight. This morning sunny spells develop widely but there will be an odd shower in the north. Through the afternoon cloudier skies spread southeastwards and rain reaches the northwest.

Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in the north to 12C (54F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Spring 2020 forecast

Tomorrow remaining spells of rain fade away. Some bright spells develop with the best of them in the east. During the second half of the day another area of wet weather reaches Northern Ireland and much of north western Britain. Temperatures will be similar to today's.

Colder outlook

During Wednesday a narrowing band of rain moves southwards. Clearer and colder conditions follow it from the north with wintry showers in Scotland.

The risk of rain remains in southern counties on Thursday. Central and northern regions should be bright with scattered showers.

During the rest of the week high pressure becomes centred close to the UK. It should lead to a good deal of quiet and rather cold weather. Nighttime frosts possibly become widespread and later on there is a chance of wintry showers in southern and eastern counties.
