Wet weather clears from the south east this morning to leave showery conditions. In the north showers could merge to give longer spells of rain. The changeable theme continues in the coming days and the cooler air in the north gradually spreads southwards. The weekend is looking mixed....READ IN FULL

Wednesday starts with heavy showers in the north and some patchy rain in the south eastern corner. Through the day showers become persistent in Northern Ireland and northern England. To the south they will be more scattered and sunny spells develop. In Scotland most of the showers are likely to be in the west where they could be wintry at times.

Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in the north west to 14C (57F) in southern England. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight showery rain pushes eastwards across much of the country. In the north snow is likely over high ground. Clearer skies follow but further showers push into the west later.

Changeable outlook

A few scattered showers are likely on Friday but there should be a lot of dry and bright weather too. During the second half of the day outbreaks of rain spread into the south west, Wales and possibly Northern Ireland.

The weekend is looking changeable. Saturday looks the better of the two days with scattered showers and sunny spells in much of the country. Overnight and through Sunday a band of rain spreads southeastwards across all regions. It is followed by a mix of sunshine and showers.
