Wet weather today slowly becomes restricted to southern and central regions. In the north it turns brighter and showery. The changeable theme continues in the coming days and the cooler air in the north gradually spreads southwards. The weekend is looking mixed....READ IN FULL

Tuesday starts overcast and wet in much of the country. Outbreaks of rain are heavy in places, particularly western and northern areas. Through the day brighter and showery conditions in Scotland gradually extend into Northern Ireland and northern England. It remains cloudy and wet in much of southern and central Britain.
Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in the north west to a very mild 16C (61F) in eastern England. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight it slowly turns drier in the south. Central and northern regions should be dry to begin with but later in the night heavy showery rain pushes into the north west.

Tomorrow looks mostly dry in southern counties. Elsewhere there will be a mix of sunny spells and showers. The showers could become more prolonged in northern England and Wales. In the north they are likely to fall as sleet or snow over the hills and possibly bring a wintry mix to low levels. Temperatures in the south will be close to the average but the north has a chilly day.

Thursday looks cool with blustery showers but there will be quite a lot of sunny spells too. In the north showers could be wintry even at low levels.
A few scattered showers are likely on Friday but there should be a lot of dry and bright weather too. During the second half of the day outbreaks of rain spread into the south west, Wales and possibly Northern Ireland.
The weekend is looking changeable with showers or longer spells of rain. Temperatures should be close to the seasonal average generally, but it will be colder at times, particularly in the north.
