Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow push southeastwards this morning. Parts of the south are likely to see their first snow of the winter. Brighter and showery conditions follow from the west and reach all areas by early afternoon. The unsettled theme continues for the rest of the week. Thursday starts with outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow in much of England. Across much of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland it is drier but there are wintry showers in the north west. This morning the area of precipitation over England moves southeastwards and clears away from Kent and Essex by the early afternoon. There will be further snow at times with accumulations in places, particularly over higher ground such as the Chilterns. Brighter conditions follow but wintry showers continue in the west.
Temperatures range from 3C (37F) in the north to 7C (45F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight wintry showers continue in the north west. Elsewhere it will be dry and clear periods lead to a widespread frost. Later on outbreaks of rain push into Wales and the south west.

Tomorrow rain quickly pushes northeastwards across most of the UK. In the north it turns to sleet or snow, particularly over the hills where significant accumulations are likely. During the afternoon the rain becomes patchier across southern and central regions, but there will still be some heavy bursts in the west. It will be windy. Most of the UK becomes milder but it remains cold in Scotland.

During Saturday outbreaks of rain clear eastwards. They may linger in East Anglia and the south eastern corner into the early afternoon. Brighter skies follow but showers feed into the west and turn wintry in northern Britain. It will be quite cold and very windy.
Sunday brings a mix of sunny spells and wintry showers to the north. In the south there is a possibility of more prolonged outbreaks of rain. Windy with the risk of gales in northern England and southern Scotland
Next week unsettled weather continues. All regions have wet and windy spells. At times it could be cold enough for snow in the north.
