Storm Dennis continues to dominate the weather but in much of the country things steadily improve today. Persistent rain clears southeastwards and is replaced by sunny spells and showers. Winds in the southern half of the UK ease but in the north west they strengthen. The coming week looks unsettled but high pressure may have more influence in the south later on....READ IN FULL

Sunday starts with gales and heavy rain in much of England and eastern Wales. Elsewhere it is a more showery picture. Through the day the persistent rain pushes southeastwards and showery conditions return to most areas by mid-afternoon. Across the south eastern corner the rain may linger into the early evening. In the north showers fall as sleet or snow over high ground. Winds steadily ease in the south but strengthen in the north and west.
Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in the north to 11C (52F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow brings a mix of sunny spells and showers which could be wintry in the north. A more organised band of showers could push eastwards over southern and central areas. North eastern Britain perhaps stays mainly dry. Winds won't be as strong as in recent days but it remains blustery.

Tuesday brings a mix of sunny spells and blustery showers. It will be quite chilly and in the north showers could fall as snow down to low levels. A band of more persistent rain could push eastwards across England and Wales.
During Wednesday another spell of wet and windy weather moves eastwards across much of the UK. The heaviest rain is expected to be in the west.
The rest of the week remains mixed. All areas have further wet spells but they will be most frequent in the north and west. High pressure could bring drier periods at times to southern counties. It will be quite mild generally.
