Outbreaks of rain steadily push southeastwards today. Tomorrow Storm Dennis brings the likelihood of disruption due to heavy rain and strong winds. Gusts of up to 70mph are possible in exposed locations. The wet and very windy conditions continue on Sunday. Next week looks unsettled but high pressure may begin to have more influence in the south....READ IN FULL

Friday starts with rain in Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Elsewhere it is dry and there has been a local frost. Through the day patchy outbreaks of rain spread southeastwards. By the end of the afternoon they reach much of the south, although it could still be dry in the south east and East Anglia. In Scotland brighter and shower conditions develop. Windy in the north and west.
Temperatures range from 7C (45F) in the north to 11C (52F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain continues in southern counties. In other areas it will be dry to begin with. Later on the risk of rain increases in central and western regions.

Tomorrow Storm Dennis brings very wet and windy weather to much of the country. Winds widely gust up to 60mph and in exposed locations 70mph is possible. During the second half of the day winds may ease in Scotland. Travel disruption and flooding is expected. It will be mild.

During Sunday colder and showery conditions return to the north. In the south outbreaks of rain continue but by the evening they probably become confined to the south eastern corner. Winds should gradually ease.
Monday and Tuesday bring a mix of sunny spells and blustery showers. Most of the showers are likely to be in the north and west. It will be quite chilly and in the north showers could fall as snow down to low levels.
Mixed weather continues for the rest of the week. All areas have further wet spells but they will be most frequent in the north and west. High pressure could bring drier periods at times to southern counties. It will be quite mild generally.
