The weather will remain very unsettled during the rest of coming days. The main impacts are likely to be felt this weekend when Storm Dennis brings the likelihood of very wet and windy conditions. Wednesday starts with wintry showers in the north and west. Elsewhere it is mainly dry. Through the day sunny spells develop but wintry showers continue in the north. Central and southern regions have a good deal of dry weather but cloud builds from the southwest. This afternoon showery outbreaks of rain spread into south western England and South Wales.
Temperatures this afternoon range from 4C (39F) in the north to 8C (46F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet and windy weather pushes northeastwards across much of the country. Over high ground in the north rain turns to sleet or snow. Central and northern Scotland should stay mostly dry.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain clear eastwards across the southern half of the UK. In the north they linger into the afternoon and over high ground in Scotland significant snowfall is expected. Brighter conditions develop in the south but heavy showers spread in from the west.

Through Friday outbreaks of rain push southeastwards and become increasingly patchy. Southern England probably remains dry until the evening. It will be milder than recently. Windy with gales in the north and west.
The unsettled period continues through the weekend and disruption is likely. During Saturday Storm Dennis brings very wet and windy weather to much of the country. Winds could gust to 70mph in northern and western regions. Heavy rain and strong winds are also expected in much of the country on Sunday.
