Monday starts windy and showery. Through the day sunny spells develop but wintry showers continue. They will be heaviest and most frequent in the north west. Over high ground in the north blizzard conditions and substantial accumulations of snow are likely. In the south west showers may become more persistent this morning and spread eastwards during the afternoon. Over higher ground they could bring a mix of rain, sleet and snow. It will be windy with gales in coastal counties.

Temperatures this afternoon range from 4C (39F) in the north to 9C (48F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Chilly and unsettled

By Wednesday the wintry showers become more scattered and mainly focused on the north west. North eastern areas probably have a mostly dry and bright day. In the south cloud builds and patchy spells of rain or sleet could push into the south west. Overnight and during Thursday morning outbreaks of rain and hill snow spread eastwards. Brighter and showery conditions follow from the west.

The unsettled period continues through the rest of the week and at times it will very windy. In the north it remains cold enough for snow, especially over high ground. Across the south it becomes milder.
