Storm Ciara will bring heavy rain and gales or severe gales to the UK this weekend. The worst conditions are expected tomorrow with wind gusts of between 50mph and 80mph possible in all regions. Some damage and travel disruption is likely. Early next week it turns colder and the risk of snow increases in the north....READ IN FULL

Saturday starts with showers in the north west of the UK and there is some rain in south eastern England. This morning sunny spells develop in much of the country but showers continue in Scotland. Through the afternoon cloud builds from the west and outbreaks of rain push into northwestern areas. Winds strengthen to severe gale force in the north west.
Temperatures this afternoon range from 7C (45F) in the north to 12C (54F) in the south west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet and very windy weather spreads southeastwards but it could remain mainly dry in the south east and East Anglia. Severe gales affect the west but later on winds should ease in Scotland for a time.

Tomorrow heavy rain spreads southeastwards and showery conditions follow into the north. Strong winds lead to travel disruption and some damage is possible. Wind gusts will widely be over 50mph and in exposed locations they could exceed 80mph. Computer models are showing gusts of around 70mph in London and much of southern England during the middle part of the day.

Colder air filters down from the northwest through Monday. In central and northern regions showers turn increasingly wintry with heavy snow possible over high ground. It remains windy with gales in places.
Tuesday looks quite cold with a mix of sunny spells and wintry showers. Accumulating snow is possible at low levels in the northern half of the country. Farther south there could be some wet snow over high ground.
The unsettled period continues through the rest of the week and at times it will very windy. In the north it will be cold enough for snow at times.
