The next couple of days bring a lot of dry and calm weather as an area of high pressure keeps the Atlantic at bay. By Friday a major change begins to take place. Outbreaks of rain push into western areas and winds strengthen. This weekend all regions have wet and very windy periods. Monday starts with light rain in the far north. Elsewhere it is dry and locally there has been a frost overnight. Through the day it will be dry in most of the country. Clouds amounts vary but there should be a reasonable amount of sunshine. In north western Scotland patchy outbreaks of rain continue and it becomes quite windy.
Temperatures in much of the country this afternoon range from 7C (45F) to 10C (50F). See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight clear spells lead to a frost in places. Cloudier skies hold up temperatures across northern Scotland and the risk of rain remains.

Tomorrow should be mostly dry. Cloud amounts vary but southern and central regions probably have a good deal of sunshine. A patchy frost returns overnight.

During Friday a change begins to take place. Wet and windy weather pushes into Northern Ireland and it reaches western Britain in the afternoon. Central and eastern counties stay dry but winds strengthen.
Rain clears from the south east early on Saturday morning. It turns drier for a time but wet and very windy weather returns to the north and west. Overnight the rain and strong winds push down across all regions. Gales or severe gales are expected. It remains stormy on Sunday and disruptive gusts of wind are expected.
Colder air filters down from the northwest through Monday. In central and northern regions showers turn increasingly wintry with heavy snow possible over high ground.
The unsettled period continues through the rest of the week and at times it will very windy. In the north it will be cold enough for snow on occasion.
