Monday starts with showers in northern and western areas. Elsewhere it is dry. Through the day showers continue and a few of them could spread inland across central regions. The heaviest ones remain in the north west where they will be wintry at times. Southern counties have cloudier skies and near the south coast patchy outbreaks of rain are likely. Windy, particularly in the north.

Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in the north to 11C (52F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Change by the weekend

Wednesday and Thursday should be dry in most of the country, although there is a risk of some rain pushing into the north west. Cloud amounts vary but much of the country has sunny spells. Patchy nighttime frost is likely.

During Friday a change begins to take place. Wet and windy weather returns to western parts of the UK but in the east it remains dry.

Unsettled conditions become established in all regions this weekend. There is the potential for widespread gales or even severe gales.
