Temperatures have been well above the average this January and the month finishes on a very mild note today. There will be outbreaks of rain around too. The weekend looks mixed and in the north it begins to turn colder. Early next week the colder and showery conditions spread southwards....READ IN FULL

Friday starts wet in north western England, western Wales and Northern Ireland. Elsewhere it is mainly dry. Through the day the outbreaks of rain push down into central and southern counties. At times they turn quite heavy. In the north there will be dry and bright spells but showery rain pushes into the north west. Quite windy in all regions.
It will be very mild. Temperatures range from 11C (52F) to 14C (57F). See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain clears from the south. Heavy showers continue to affect north western regions but elsewhere it should be mainly dry.

Tomorrow there will be spells of rain in the northern half of the UK and in the west some of them could be heavy. Central regions should be mostly dry. The south should be too, although an area of rain could push into southern coastal counties. Mild in the south but colder in the north.

During Sunday outbreaks of rain push northeastwards. Over high ground in Scotland they could turn to sleet or snow. Drier conditions follow into the south. It stays very mild in the south but it will be colder in the north.
Early next week the unsettled theme continues and it turns cooler in all regions. Later on high pressure builds from the west and brings drier conditions to much of the country. It could remain more changeable in the north west.
