Milder weather returns to all of the UK during the next 24 hours. Today spells of rain push into the north west but elsewhere it becomes mainly dry. The rest of the week is looking quite unsettled and temperatures will often be well above the average for the time of year. It's probably more of the same next week but there is a chance of a colder snap....READ IN FULL

Wednesday starts blustery with wintry showers in northern and western areas. This morning outbreaks of rain push into the north west of the UK. Through the afternoon they extend more widely across the north. Over the Scottish mountains periods of sleet or snow are likely. Elsewhere cloud builds after a bright start but it remains mostly dry, although some patchy rain could reach parts of Wales.
Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in the north to 9C (48F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain continues in the north west and it could turn wet in the south west by the morning. Other areas remain mainly dry.

Tomorrow intermittent bursts of rain push eastwards. In the west they will be heavy at times but central and eastern areas have dry periods. The brightest conditions are expected to be in the north east but for many it remains overcast. It will be a lot milder than recent days with temperatures in the south approaching 13C (55F).

During Friday a band of rain moves southeastwards and it becomes increasingly fragmented. It will be quite windy and very mild.
The weekend is looking mixed. All areas have wet and windy spells. On Saturday temperatures could be quite close to the seasonal average but by Sunday it probably turns very mild again.
Next week the unsettled theme is expected to continue. It could turn colder for a time but temperatures probably often stay close to or above the seasonal average.
