The chilly weather continues today and there will be wintry showers in places. Snow is most likely over high ground in the north. Tomorrow temperatures begin to rise and the rest of the week looks unsettled. The Central England Temperature (CET) for January is currently about 2.8C above average and the month could end on a very mild note this Friday....READ IN FULL

Tuesday starts blustery and chilly. There are showers in places and in the north many of them are wintry. Through the day  showers continue with most of them in the north and west. Over high ground some fall as snow, particularly in the north. Southern and eastern counties should remain mainly dry and bright, although scattered showers are possible.

Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in the north to 8C (46F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight wintry showers continue in northern and western counties. Elsewhere it will be dry with clear periods. Strong wind mean frost is only likely in sheltered locations.

Tomorrow should be dry in southern and central regions. In the northern half of the country outbreaks of rain push in from the west. They turn heavy in the north west and could be preceded by a period of sleet or snow, especially over high ground. North eastern areas could stay mostly dry. Scotland has quite a cold day but elsewhere temperatures will be higher than in recent days.

Unsettled and milder

During Thursday outbreaks of rain push eastwards. In the north they could be quite heavy but across southern and central counties they will be patchier. Generally mild.  

Through Friday and the weekend it remains unsettled. All areas have spells of rain and at times it will be windy. Temperatures will be above the average and at times it turns very mild.
