Monday starts with showers which are heavy and wintry in the north west. Through the day frequent showers continue to affect western and southern coastal counties. Some of them move inland and in the north they bring sleet or snow at times, particularly over high ground. There will be sunny spells too.

Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in the north to 9C (48F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Winter 2019/20 forecast

The chilly and showery theme continues tomorrow. In the north showers bring sleet and snow down to low levels. Over high ground in central and southern regions a wintry mix is possible. The heaviest showers will be in the north and west with many places probably messing them completely.

More unsettled outlook

Wednesday is looking dry in southern and central regions. In the north outbreaks of rain spread eastwards and over high ground in Scotland they turn to snow for a time. Temperatures will generally be a little higher than in recent days.

Through the rest of the week a southwesterly flow becomes established as high pressure builds to the south of the UK. Therefore it should be mild with the most unsettled conditions in the north west.
