Sunday starts with outbreaks of rain in western parts of the UK. Central and eastern counties are mostly dry. Through the day the wet weather spreads southeastwards. Brighter conditions follow on from the northwest but it remains wet in parts of eastern England into the evening. Showers develop in the north west and they turn wintry.

Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in the north to 10C (50F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Winter 2019/20 forecast

Tomorrow showers continue and in the north sleet or snow is possible, particularly over high ground. At times they could merge to give longer spells of rain. Cold in the north but temperatures in the south won't be far from the late January average.

More unsettled outlook

The chilly and showery theme continues on Tuesday. In the north showers bring sleet and snow down to low levels and over high ground in central and southern regions a wintry mix is possible. This could be the first day of the winter that some places see a few flakes of snow falling.

Through the rest of the week a southwesterly flow is expected to become established as high pressure builds to the south of the UK. Therefore it should become mild again with the most unsettled conditions in the north west.
