Friday starts mainly dry but there is patchy fog in in the southern half of the UK. Through the day drizzle or light rain pushes into western Scotland at times. Elsewhere it remains mainly dry, although thicker cloud could bring an odd spot of rain to central and western areas. A few bright spells develop.

Temperatures across the country don't vary much and range from 8C (46F) to 11C (52F). See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight overcast skies bring a few spots of rain, particularly in the north west. In southern and central regions patchy fog returns and cloud breaks could allow temperatures locally to dip low enough for a touch of frost.

Tomorrow it's a similar picture in much of the UK. In the north west more persistent spells of rain are expected and winds strengthen. Elsewhere it starts murky and a lot of cloud remains but a few breaks are likely.

More unsettled outlook

During Sunday a band of rain moves southeastwards across all areas. Brighter and showery conditions follow and in Scotland it will be cold enough for snow over high ground.

Monday is looking showery and in the north it could be cold enough for sleet or snow. There is a risk of more persistent outbreaks of rain in the south but the chance of a significant storm appears to be receding. The rather chilly and showery theme continues on Tuesday and even over high ground in central and southern regions a mix of rain, sleet and snow is not out of the question.

A ridge of high pressure possibly brings drier conditions back during Wednesday and Thursday. More unsettled weather returns by Friday.
