Wednesday starts mainly dry but there is patchy fog in in the southern half of the UK. Locally there has been a frost but it is generally milder than recent mornings. Through the day thicker cloud brings some drizzle or light rain to the north west. Elsewhere it remains dry and there will be some sunny spells.

Temperatures range from 7C (45F) in the south east to 12C (54F) in the north. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow thicker cloud will bring some drizzle but there should also be brighter intervals. Across Scotland winds strengthen and more persistent outbreaks of rain spread into the north and west.

More unsettled outlook

The quiet weather continues on Friday. In the north west some patchy rain is likely but elsewhere it remains mainly dry. Cloud amounts will be variable.

Through weekend a change takes place as high pressure declines. That leads to more mixed weather returning as Atlantic disturbances push southwards. All regions can expect some rain. In the north it turns colder and there is an increasing risk of snow over higher ground.

The first half of next week is looking unsettled. Bands of rain push southeastwards and they are followed by showery conditions. At times it will be cold enough for sleet or snow over the hills in the north. Temperatures should be close to the average in the north but it becomes mild in the south.
