Unsettled and stormy weather affects the UK at times during the next few days. Tomorrow Storm Brendan is expected to bring travel disruption due to the combination of heavy rain and strong winds. Another low pressure system approaches from the southwest on Tuesday. Towards the end of the week things may begin to settle down a little as high pressure builds....READ IN FULL

Sunday starts very mixed. In Wales and England there are some heavy outbreaks of rain. This morning they push eastwards and are followed by brighter conditions. Rain in northern and western Scotland also fades away. The afternoon will be dry and bright in much of the UK but showers continue in the north west. Strong winds in the south steadily ease.

Tomorrow starts mainly dry and bright. Through the morning wet and very windy weather spreads across Northern Ireland and into western Britain as Storm Brendan approaches from the west. During the afternoon and evening it pushes into central and eastern areas. Showery conditions return into the north west. Gales are likely in much of the country with severe gales in the west. Gusts of 80mph are possible in exposed western locations.

Tuesday sees another batch of wet and windy weather pushing northeastwards. Over high ground in the north sleet or snow is possible. The combination of heavy rain and gales or severe gales could lead to disruption. In the south it becomes very mild.
Wednesday probably starts wet in the south east but brighter conditions should quickly return. Elsewhere it will be mainly dry, although in the north west showers are likely. It will be windy, particularly in the north. Severe gales are possible in western and northern Scotland.
The rest of the week looks mixed. All regions have further spells of rain but also drier and brighter interludes. Temperatures fluctuate and in the north it could be cold enough for snow at times, especially over high ground. By the end of the period it may be turning drier as high pressure builds from the south.
