Mixed and often mild outlook

Through Wednesday heavy outbreaks of rain push across much of southern and central Britain. The north has a colder and brighter day with scattered showers which could be wintry over high ground.

Wet weather slowly clears from northern England during Thursday. Over high ground such as the Pennines it could turn to sleet or snow and accumulations are possible. Elsewhere it should be mainly dry, although outbreaks of rain perhaps push into the south west later on. Temperatures will be a lot lower than in recent days, especially in the north.

The rest of the week looks mixed. Wet and windy spells are expected in all regions and at times it could become very windy. Temperatures will fluctuate on a daily basis.
