It will be mild. Temperatures generally range from 9C (48F) to 12C (54F), but to the east of high ground in Scotland 15C (59F) could be reached. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Settled in the south

During New Year's Eve outbreaks of rain are likely in the south west and thicker cloud could bring damp conditions more widely to the south. The north should have a dry and bright day. Clear periods could lead to a chilly night with patchy frost.

New Year's day is set to be dry in most of the country. After a cold start temperatures pick up and become close to the average in the afternoon. Outbreaks of rain may push into northern and western Scotland.

Through the rest of the week disturbances from the Atlantic bring rain to the north west. At times the wet conditions could push down across all regions but high pressure should keep southern counties dry for much of the time. In the northern half of the UK it probably turns turns colder for a time.
