Much of the UK has a wet Boxing Day. In the coming days a change develops as high pressure becomes established to the south of the UK. It leads to drier weather away from the north west and upper air temperatures are set to become exceptionally mild for December. Boxing Day starts with outbreaks of rain in much of the south and west. Through the day the rain spreads eastwards and there will be some heavy bursts mixed in. Some bright spells develop in the south west but further heavy showers push in later. Scotland probably remains mainly dry but cloudy. Windy, particularly in the west.
Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in the north to 12C (54F) in the south west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight it remains damp in the south west but much of southern and central Britain becomes drier. Heavy spells of rain spread into the north west but other parts of the north stay mainly dry.

During Saturday rain becomes confined to the north west of the UK. Elsewhere it is expected to be dry and mildish but often cloudy.
The risk of wet weather continues in Scotland and Northern Ireland on Sunday. Wales and England should be dry. Mild, particularly in the north.
Next week is looking changeable. Atlantic disturbances bring frequent wet spells to the north. At times they could push down across all regions but high pressure should keep southern counties drier. It is likely to be mild or very mild for much of the time.
