Colder and brighter in the north

Sunny weather

Colder air will push southwards across all regions during the next 24 hours. Today there will be rain in the southern half of the UK but across the north becomes drier and brighter. The settled and chilly weather continues through the weekend and the early part of next week. Nighttime frosts become widespread....READ IN FULL

Thursday begins with rain in northern and eastern England. There are showers in eastern Scotland too but elsewhere it is drier. Through the day patchy outbreaks of rain spread into central and southern counties. Across the north it becomes brighter but scattered wintry showers develop in Scotland.     

Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in Scotland to 11C (52F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain slowly clears southwards. Central and northern regions have a dry night with clear periods and a widespread frost. Near the east coast a few showers are likely.

Tomorrow will be mostly dry and bright. However, there will be showers near the east coast and at times they could be wintry. Cold in all regions.

Colder and drier spell

Saturday starts with a widespread frost. In central and northern areas it remains dry and sunny. Across the south cloud builds and outbreaks of rain spread into the south west. Later in the day they may extend more widely across southern counties and over high ground there could be some wet snow. It will be cold.

Sunday will be another cold day. Central and northern areas should be dry and sunny with frost early and late. In the south it is expected to turn brighter through the morning, although the south eastern corner could be cloudy and damp into the afternoon. 

The chilly conditions continue early next week. Nighttime frost and fog is expected in much of the country, although in the north cloud and rain could return.
