Frosty weather

Most of the UK will be chilly but dry today. However, unsettled weather is set to continue during the week ahead with further wet and windy periods. Temperatures remain on the low side and over high ground in the north there is an ongoing risk of sleet or snow. In the longer term forecast confidence is low....READ IN FULL

Sunday starts cloudy in the far south. Elsewhere it is mainly dry and there has been a frost in much of the north. Through the day central and eastern areas have sunny periods. A few showers are likely in coastal counties but it remains mainly dry. Across Northern Ireland and western Britain cloud builds this afternoon.

Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in the north to 8C (48F) in the south west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet and windy weather spreads southeastwards across the UK. Over high ground in the north sleet or snow is likely. By the end of the night showery conditions return to much of the country but outbreaks of rain continue in central and eastern England.

Tomorrow morning rain gradually clears from the south eastern corner. Inland areas then have sunny spells but heavy showers push into northern and western coastal counties. It will be windy and quite cold.

Unsettled and quite cold

Tuesday should be mainly dry in the south. In central and northern regions there will be showers and over high ground they could be wintry. At times showers may merge in the north to give longer spells of rain. It remains cold.

Wednesday is looking dry and bright in central and eastern areas. In the west wet and windy conditions probably push in from the Atlantic during the second half of the day.

Through the rest of the week the chilly and changeable weather continues. All areas have showers or longer periods of rain and in the north there is a chance of snow at times, especially over high ground.
