Rain for many in the short term

Much of the country has wet weather during the next few days. During the weekend colder air in the north will push southwards and nighttime frosts become widespread by early next week. Over the mountains in the northern half of the UK there is the risk of snow at times....READ IN FULL

Thursday starts with showers in the far north west. Elsewhere it is mainly dry. Through the day outbreaks of rain spread across much of southern and eastern England. In the south east they will be heavy at times. Other areas have sunny spells, although showers become more widespread in western Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in the north to 14C (57F) in the far south east and East Anglia. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight the wet weather in the south east moves away. Showers continue in the north and west for a time but they should generally fade away. Later on outbreaks of rain reach the south west. It will be cold in the north with a frost in places.

UK winter 2019/20 Update 2 [NEW]


Tomorrow outbreaks of rain spread northeastward across much of England and Wales.They will be heavy in northern and western areas, perhaps turning to snow over the Pennines. South eastern England probably remains mainly dry and overcast. Much of Scotland and Northern Ireland have a bright day but there will be showers in the north west. Cold in the north. The south will be milder but windy.

Colder outlook

Saturday will be wet and windy for much of the time in southern and central regions. The north has a cold and bright day with showers which may fall as sleet or snow over the mountains.

Sunday is forecast to be cold and bright. In the north there will be scattered showers and they could be wintry over high ground. A widespread frost develops overnight.

Next week begins mainly dry and cold, although in the north and east scattered showers are likely. Nighttime frosts are expected to be widespread. During the second half of the week things may become more changeable.
