Much of the UK has wet weather today and further flooding is likely in places. Tomorrow brings a respite as colder air moves southwards and high pressure builds in from the west. By Thursday it begins to turn unsettled again as ex-hurricane Lorenzo approaches the north west....READ IN FULL

Tuesday starts wet in northern England and Northern Ireland. To the south it's a showery picture but there are downpours in places. To the north it is mostly dry. Through the day rain in the north gradually edges southwards. Heavy showers push eastwards to the south of it and there could be further flooding. Scotland remains mainly dry but a few showers develop and over high ground they could fall as snow.

Tonight showers and longer spells of rain gradually move away southeastwards. Clear spells develop and it becomes cold with a touch of frost in the north.

Tomorrow starts cold and dry. Showers continue in Scotland and they may fall as sleet or snow over high ground. Elsewhere it will be fine but chilly.

During Thursday the remnants of ex-Hurricane Lorenzo approach the north west. An associated band of cloud and rain is expected to push in from the west but central and eastern Britain could remain dry for much of the day. In the west and north west it becomes very windy with gales possible in places. The rain clears eastwards overnight.

Friday probably starts wet in the northern half of the UK.Scotland and Northern Ireland. The south should be mainly dry but showery rain is likely later in the day.

The weekend looks mixed. There will be some drier spells, particularly in the south. However, all regions have further rain. Temperatures will be close to the seasonal average.
